...This was a way to pass the time just like any other. In 1950, I tried to create in my laboratory a formula for cold wax that maintained its stability. I was in the habit, upon waking every morning, of imagining the formula in my head, still in bed, and I would arrive at the laboratory ready to try it out. This one worked at first go, but it was only a prototype formula with no analysis of the proper proportions. I then had to develop the real formula, complete with defined proportions. I tried once, twice, ten times, all in vain. I started over, relentlessly, one Saturday and one Sunday, from dawn to dusk. It's impossible to recount how many times I altered the formula, but on Monday morning, when the staff came to work, I had found it...
